Rotten Egg Smell Likely As Gas Co. Performs Maintenance Flaring
Gas flaring for maintenance has been scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Lucas Road Regulator Station in Acworth.

PAULDING COUNTY, GA — Paulding County Emergency Management Agency has been notified by Atlanta Gas Light that gas flaring for maintenance has been scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Lucas Road Regulator Station in Acworth, with the closest intersection at Lucas Road and Cochran Road.
The gas flaring is for the northwest Georgia main expansion. Flaring procedures are expected to last up to 48 hours.
Flaring is a standard industry practice for removing natural gas from a pipeline for maintenance. Flaring helps the gas dissipate more quickly than a controlled release. Depending on how close you are to the flare residents may smell the odorant that Atlanta Gas Light adds for safety – mercaptan, which gives gas a “rotten egg” smell. The flame will extinguish itself once all of the gas has burned.
