Someone wrote on a desk that there will be a shooting at the school on Friday, school officials said.

DALLAS, GA — Law enforcement and school officials are investigating a threat of violence at North Paulding High School.
In a letter to parents, North Paulding Principal Mark Crowe said that, on Wednesday, school administrators were alerted to a threat written on a desk in the school.
The threat said there would be a shooting at North Paulding on Friday, May 5. Administrators immediately contacted the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, which began in investigation.

"We are working closely with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and there will be an increased police presence at the school tomorrow," Crowe said in the letter, shared to social media Thursday morning. "At this time, operations will continue as normal."
He urged any student with information about the written threat to speak with a staff member or administrator or to contact the sheriff's office. Crowe said he would update parents on the situation Thursday afternoon.

In a follow-up post Thursday afternoon, school officials called the situation "a low-level, non-credible threat."
"Our investigation has not uncovered any additional information that would indicate this is a credible threat against the school," the post reads.
Even so, the post said there would be additional police presence at the school on Friday, as well as at the school's prom at the Atlanta Opera. School officials said that if parents decide to keep their children home from school at North Paulding on Friday, those absences would be excused.
