Board Approves Land Purchase

The purchase of 63 acres is connected to the Seven Hills extension project.

A few hours after breaking ground on the , the voted to approve the purchase of 63 acres related to the project from State Bank & Trust at a cost of $503,800.

The project will bypass affecting existing homes by going through an unfinished subdivision including 154 lots. It also will include 40 acres of green space. The extentions will connect Cedarcrest Road with Highway 92, which officials said should help alleviate traffic on a .

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. was awarded the project, which is expected to cost $8.52 million.

The board also approved a resolution that would authorize project improvement fees for substandard roadways and infrastructure within individual residential developments. Typically, this affects subdivisions that have streets that need final paving coats and/or streetlights, Commissioner Todd Pownall said. Before a building permit is issued, the fee will need to be paid. The maximum fee is $2,500, but it will vary from subdivision to subdivision.
