SPHS Hosting Second-Annual ‘Batting for Brigette’

South Paulding High School is raising funds in the name of a former student during today's baseball game against Hiram High.

The community isn’t just looking for support of the school at today’s baseball game against Hiram. The school is hosting during the game the second-annual “Batting for Brigette” event to raise money and awareness for leukemia, and supporters are hoping to see attendees donate to the cause and wear orange—the awareness color of leukemia.

The event, which runs from 1 to 5 p.m., is named after Brigette Barron, a South Paulding High School student . The school days before her passing . Tony Daniel, a 2011 South Paulding graduate who helped organize last year’s event, said the inaugural event raised $10,000.

Tickets to today’s baseball game are $5, and all the proceeds from the gate will go to the Brigette Barron Foundation, Daniel said. Also helping the cause will be a raffle and silent auction held throughout the day. Orange ribbons also have been sold at the high school for donations.
