Super Bowl: Hiram Police Take Shot at Patriots, Brady

A Facebook post says the department is helping "investigate" a deflating-football crime wave.

HIRAM, GA — We doubt the Hiram Police are going to actually make an arrest in the most recent "investigation" they announced on social media.

But it's firing up Falcons fans. And, a day before the local team takes on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI, we calling that a win.

On Facebook, Hiram Police announced that they are working with other agencies on "a vandalism crime spree that has so far spanned 5 states."

The exact nature of the crime?

"The suspects have been deflating footballs while they continue southwest across the country," the department wrote (with a nod to police in Johns Creek for inspiring the post). "We are trying to assist in identifying the suspects and locating them for the safety of footballs everywhere."

The post is a not-so-subtle jab at Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Brady was suspended for the first four games of this season for his role in so-called DeflateGate — in which it appeared that footballs had been illegally deflated slightly before the 2015 AFC Championship Game.

Add to that the Patriots' record, under head coach Bill Belichick, of questionable behavior, from illegally videotaping rivals' practices to unexplained technology outages for visiting teams, and you've got a Falcons fan base that's probably all too proud to have Hiram's finest on the case.

According to the post, authorities in Houston — where Sunday's Super Bowl is taking place — have been notified.
