Many people commit to being a part of an organization’s Board of Directors without really knowing what they
are committing to or asking questions about their responsibilities as a board member. In turn, many executive
directors and senior staff of non-profit organizations run and operate their organizations without knowing the
full scope of the organization’s responsibility to its board and the steps to take to ensure the safety of the
organization and its board.
This conference is designed for senior staff and board members and will present purpose of boards, duties of directors, protecting the organization from risk, effective committees, leadership pipeline, and relevance to members, strategic direction and board meetings. With increased scrutiny on exempt organizations and boards, this session is important for non-profits of any size.

The conference will feature non-profit guru, Bob Harris, CAE, President of The Nonprofit Center. Harris has
more than 30-year’s experience serving associations and non-profits and teaches board leadership to
thousands of volunteers around the globe. He will present practical, relevant information to make volunteer
leaders more effective. Through the use of examples, tips, tools, templates and trends, Bob will share
information and encourage input and questions. Attendees will also receive the Board Excellence Manual and
the laminated Guide to Board Responsibilities.
“Bob Harris is the go-to in the non-profit industry when it comes to board management,” commented DC
Chamber President & CEO, Kali Boatright. “He not only prepares executives on how to manage their Board of
Directors, but also gives insight for board members responsibilities. So many people simply jump into these
roles without knowing what they are getting themselves into and what their commitment actually entails. The
Chamber’s goal is to provide an opportunity for all non-profits in the region to have proper training for their
organizations which will in turn benefit our community with top-notch non-profit services.”
Registration for the conference is $30 per person and includes breakfast, training with Mr. Harris, and lunch
with a motivational speaker. For more information or to register, visit www.douglascountygeorgia.com or
contact the Chamber at 770.942.5022. Space is limited and this event will sell out quickly.
