An official cause of death has not been released.
Rashunda McClendon, West's mother, told WAGA-TV her daughter faced bullying.
West, who was new to the neighborhood where the fight took place, had been having trouble with the other girl since moving into the area, according to De'Quala McClendon, who identified herself as West's aunt on Facebook.
She said the incident began at the school and escalated to an argument on the school bus.
During the fight, a student ran to West's home to tell her mother what was happening; and, Rashunda McClendon reportedly said that is when she ran to the scene and found her daughter on the ground.
"She wasn't breathing," Rashunda McClendon told the news outlet.
Reportedly, West was ultimately taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital, where she died Sunday.
De'Quala McClendon on Saturday wrote, in part:
"now hear me clear of why this video is important to share because it may seem like a normal fight but before my niece could make it home her heart stopped and now she’s laying in the hospital possible brain dead with the outcome that she may not make it. ... we want justice we want exposure we want resolution and we want change ... we are broken by this someone who never been in trouble or a fight but stood her ground against a bully ... we need her name known Jada West is her name she is only 12 she’s a good kid she need all of us to stand for her we need answers ..."
On Sunday, she wrote that West gained her "spiritual crown." She later added a GoFundMe will be established when the family is ready.
"you was beautiful you was different from a lot of kids and they didn’t understand that you always had your crown."
