Douglas County Congratulates Spelling Bee Participants

Twenty-nine students in grades 3-8 from DCSS elementary and middle schools competed.

From Douglas County School System:The Douglas County Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Douglas County Association of Educators (DCAE), took place on February 2, 2017, at the Douglas County Courthouse. Congratulations to all contestants and especially to the following winners!

  • 1st Place Samuel White, 5th grade, Holly Springs Elementary
  • 2nd Place Lena Bowers, 7th grade, Turner Middle School
  • 3rd Place Aaron Guger, 7th grade, Chapel Hill Middle School

Twenty-nine students in grades 3-8 from DCSS elementary and middle schools competed. The Spelling Bee went more than 20 rounds, and the winning word was "arachnid." The first and second place winners will participate in the Georgia Association of Educators District 4 Spelling Bee on February 25 at the DeKalb County Board of Education Complex.


We appreciate the DCAE for sponsoring this event and the CCI and Ms. Whitney Forsch for providing the sign. Thank you also to Donniel Lewis, 9th grade student at the CCI, for the artwork on the sign.
