Douglas County Rescue Team Deploys To Hurricane Matthew
Douglas County is home to one of seven Georgia Search and Rescue teams that headed to Perry on Friday.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A search and rescue team from Douglas County will be headed toward the coast to help Georgians in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
Part of the Douglas County Fire/EMS department, the local team is one of seven Georgia Search and Rescue (GSAR) task forces stationed throughout the state.
All seven teams have been activated as Hurricane Matthew works its way up the Florida coast, with forecasts calling for it to hit Georgia late Friday or early Saturday.

Douglas County has housed a GSAR team since 2007. The team's primary mission is the coordination, development and maintenance of resources needed find victims trapped in collapsed structures and provide them with immediate medical help.
A total of nine team members and eight vehicles were deployed toward the coast Friday morning.

They were expected to rendezvous with other GSAR teams at the Guardian Center in Perry and will deploy from there after the hurricane passes.
The deployment is expected to last 5-7 days.
Fire officials stressed Friday that all Douglas County fire stations will remain adequately staffed for local needs during the deployment.
