Douglas County Sheriff's Office Receives Extension of H.E.A.T. Grant

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has accepted an extension of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement and Aggressive Traffic) grant for $ 79,000.00 for 2015. The grant will pay 50 percent for two of the deputy’s salary and maintenance for three of the vehicles assigned to the unit.

The H.E.A.T. units are specialized units that are used to patrol high volume heavily congested areas to enforce traffic laws related to impaired and aggressive driving. H.E.A.T. units are also utilized for road vehicle checks for violations such as driving without a license, improper vehicle registration, and vehicle insurance violations are just a few examples. They also work in conjunction with Cobb and Douglas County Health SAFE KIDS by having child safety seat inspections for vehicles that are held at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and other locations in the county.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant David Martin is the coordinator for the Western Region Traffic Enforcement Network which is a $ 20,000.00 grant that we also receive from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety that includes 38 agencies that participate in this program that are under his coordination in monthly traffic enforcement efforts throughout the region.
