Douglas Jailer Arrested For Sex With Three Inmates (ICYMI)

DOUGLASVILLE, GA— A Douglas County jailer has been arrested on charges he had sex with at least three inmates.

Carmel Biggers Jr., of Hiram, was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of sexual assault by a law enforcement officer on a person in custody.

All three of the counts are felonies. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that the case remains under investigation and that more charges could be forthcoming.

A preliminary investigation has identified three victims in the case, according to the release. All three were inmates at Douglas County Jail at the time of the alleged assaults.

Biggers has been an employee of the sheriff's office since December 2016. He was still in custody Monday afternoon, but a judge has set his bond at $75,000.

He is being fired immediately, according to the release.

"This type of conduct by any person associated with Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is completely unacceptable and is an embarrassment to the department as well as the many exceptional men and woman that proudly wear this badge," Douglas County Sheriff Tim Pounds said in the release. "This conduct will not be tolerated and will be dealt with appropriately."
