For many, the COVID-19 Pandemic has changed the way we live, work, and play. It has made routine tasks much more intricate and has significantly impacted the local, national, and global economy. It has also put things in perspective – conveniences that we have become accustomed to aren’t taken as much for granted as they once were.

For others, however, the change has been much more severe. Individuals suffering from chronic physical and mental issues find it much more difficult to receive the services they need. Those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity struggle to find shelter due to closings and bed reductions resulting from social distancing measures. The senior population has also experienced an unparalleled measure of quarantine and isolation, making it difficult to get food, medication, and social interaction.

These examples merely scratch the surface of individuals suffering and fearing the unknown. The City of Douglasville and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners have worked together to create a comprehensive list of local nonprofit and service-orientated organizations, in addition to public healthcare providers, shelters, food pantries, and affordable housing assistance organizations here in Douglas County, the Atlanta-Metro region, and statewide.

“As we prepare to safely reopen various services in Douglas County, I feel it’s important to help citizens understand what resources are available for all who live in the City of Douglasville and the City of Villa Rica as well as all of Douglas County,” Chairman Jones said. “COVID-19 has brought experiences of adversity in our lives like never before, but because we are in this together, we can overcome all of this with all the specialty services we offer as one whole community. We must stick together and help one another.”

Those resources have been compiled and made available on the City of Douglasville website, www.DouglasvilleGA.gov, and the Douglas County website, www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com. Brief descriptions, contact information, and locations of each organization will be provided to ensure accessibility for anyone seeking assistance.

“As public servants, we are expected to be prepared to help those we serve however we can,” Mayor Rochelle Robinson explained. “If we do not offer a certain service, we should be ready to point those in need in the right direction, especially in uncertain times. I am thrilled to have partnered with Madam Chair Jackson Jones and the Douglas Board of Commissioners to provide this resource. It is a true reflection of the type of cooperation and compassion found in our community.”
