Initially, Cobb & Douglas Public Health required a doctor’s visit and referral for individuals to be allowed on-site to be tested. Earlier this week, Public Health officials updated their eligibility requirements for testing.

“Testing is still by appointment only,” Mayor Rochelle Robinson explained. “However, individuals no longer need to visit their doctor in order to be eligible. They can now call Cobb & Douglas Public Health to be referred to the testing site, if necessary.”

The expanded testing criteria made by Cobb & Douglas Public Health includes:
• Healthcare workers, first responders, and other critical infrastructure workers
• Persons residing in long-term care facilities or other group residential settings
• Persons 65 years of age and older
• Patients with underlying medical conditions
• Household members or care givers of any of the groups above
• Persons with close contact to a known COVID-19 case

The following people without symptoms will also be tested as capacity allows:
• Healthcare workers, first responders, and other critical infrastructure workers that have been exposed to COVID-19
• Residents of a long-term care facility or other group residential setting experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19

“I applaud this change,” Mayor Robinson went on. “Allowing individuals this type of access to testing saves time, money that people may otherwise have had to pay for co-pays, all while maintaining safety by only allowing those with appointments in for testing.”

An online assessment to see if you qualify for testing can be found on the Cobb & Douglas Public Health website at www.CobbAndDouglasPublicHealth.com or by calling 770-514-2300.
