Douglasville Liberty Road Bridge Over I-20 Rehabilitation Project Starts In June

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors are scheduled to begin rehabilitation activities on the Liberty Road Bridge over I-20 in Douglas County on June 1.

This work is part of a project to improve the safety of six bridges in Douglas County where they cross over I-20: Tyson Road over I-20 eastbound, Tyson Road over I-20 westbound, Post Road over I-20, Burnt Hickory Road over I-20, North County Line Road over I-20 and Liberty Road over I-20.

Crews have placed message boards in proximity to the bridge to give motorists advance notice of the upcoming traffic impacts. Crews will also install temporary barriers in the shoulder lanes on I-20 eastbound and westbound near the Liberty Road interchange in advance of the maintenance work.

In order to complete the work, Liberty Road Bridge will be closed to traffic for an estimated 30-45 days to ensure safety for workers and drivers. During that time traffic will be detoured on I-20 eastbound and westbound around the closure.

Bridge rehabilitation includes raising the structures’ vertical clearance, bridge deck preservation (with polymer overlay), painting of steel beams, joint replacement where necessary and stabilizing the superstructures and substructures.
