“This is a small-scale reopening, focusing on customer service areas first, then slowly reopening other portions of City facilities,” Mayor Rochelle Robinson reported. “The health and safety of citizens and employees remains our first priority. Social distancing will be strictly enforced, and the frequent disinfecting and sanitizing will continue to take place in all areas.”

Facilities that are planned to reopen include the main entrance of City Hall, allowing individuals to make payments at the Finance window. Public access to the atrium of the Public Safety building will be restored as well. This will allow individuals access to the Records Department and Courts Division. The Courts Division will only be allowing access to the payment window at this time. Municipal Court hearings will continue to be suspended in accordance with the revised judicial emergency order of the Supreme Court of Georgia. Hearings will start back on May 20th.

Hunter Park facilities will remain closed due to COVID-19 testing for Cobb & Douglas Public Health. Citizens can walk on walking trails and paths, but social distancing is required. This is to maintain the required health standards.

The Douglasville Welcome Center will reopen to the public with access from O’Neal Plaza. The Welcome Center entrance on Veterans Memorial Highway will remain closed. The Douglasville Conference Center will also remain closed and City officials will await guidance from the Governor’s office on social distancing and gathering requirements for meeting spaces to help determine an opening date.

The Community Development Building will remain closed to the public as well; however, they will continue to accept all applications and plan submissions electronically. For those who cannot submit electronically, the department will have a dropbox available in the front of the building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Building inspections will continue with a limited number of individuals allowed on-site and meetings with applicants will continue virtually or by phone.

“Most of our services can be handled online, but we also understand we have citizens that do not have access to technology that aids in online transactions,” Mayor Robinson added. “We encourage everyone to continue to conduct business with the City of Douglasville virtually. For those who need to meet in person, signs outlining social distancing measures will be posted in our facilities, and there will be markings on the floor, much like we’ve seen at drug stores and grocery stores.”
