Douglasville to Screen Locally Filmed Movie, 'The Founder'

The free showing of the movie, which was filmed in Douglasville in 2015, will be Friday, May 12.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Residents of the Douglasville area will get a chance to watch a locally filmed movie on the exact spot where it was filmed.

The City of Douglasville will host a free screening of "The Founder," which was filmed locally in 2015, on Friday, May 12.

The screening event will run from 7-10 p.m. and be held in the parking lot next to the Old Douglasville Police Station — which was used as a filming location for the movie.

The screening is part of Douglasville's National Travel & Tourism Week celebration. Free popcorn, concessions, entertainment and more is planned for the event.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

"The Founder" is the story of Ray Kroc, the salesman who turned fast food eatery McDonald's into one of the biggest restaurant businesses in the world with a combination of ambition, persistence, and ruthlessness.

It stars Michael Keaton as Kroc, with a cast that includes Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch, Laura Dern and B.J. Novak.

The movie began filming in downtown Douglasville in June 2015. Multiple restaurant sets were built in Douglasville, representing McDonald's franchises and other restaurants in different places.

Released in January of this year, the movie was greeted with mostly positive reviews. It has an 82 percent audience score and 84 percent critics score on movie-review site Rotten Tomatoes.
