Gas Leak Causes Lawrenceville Residents To Shelter In Place
A natural gas leak caused by a construction crew Friday caused several residents in downtown Lawrenceville to shelter in place.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A natural gas leak caused by a construction crew Friday caused several residents in downtown Lawrenceville to shelter in place for about two hours, according to the Gwinnett Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 1:01 p.m., to a report of an active natural gas leak outside on South Perry Street, SW near Nash Street in downtown Lawrenceville.
A construction crew struck a four-inch gas line while digging near the roadway. Firefighters monitored gas readings in the area and Lawrenceville Police closed South Perry Street, just north of Fire Station #15. There were three structures with a total of seven people, in close proximity to the leak who were asked to shelter-in-place as a precaution until the situation was under control.

An emergency crew from Lawrenceville Gas was able to clamp the multi-feed line and stopped the leak at 2:50 p.m. There were no evacuations and no injuries reported. The scene was turned over to Lawrenceville Gas to complete repairs on the line and the roadway was reopened.
Equipment on the scene included: one engine, one squad (hazmat unit) and one battalion chief.
