Georgia Funeral Home's Wristbands Rally Law Enforcement Support

In Douglas County, Jones-Wynn Funeral Homes have given away more than 2,000 black and blue bands supporting officers.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — It started with a couple of blue ribbons on the front porches of their two funeral homes.

But the folks at family-owned Jones-Wynn Funeral Homes & Crematory in Douglas County decided they wanted to do more to honor the law enforcement officers they often find themselves working with closely.

The result? Thousands of people are now wearing black-and-blue wristbands to show their support for police.

A few weeks ago, after placing the ribbons, staff members at the funeral homes started kicking around ideas about what more they could do to honor law enforcement.

They decided on a wristband -- black, with a thin blue line -- and placed an order.

When they arrived, this message went out on Facebook: "Showing support for our officers. Come by our Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel to get your free wristband to show your support….Please share this post. #LoveMore”.

That batch was gone before the end of the first day.

But even that didn't prepare funeral home staff for what happened next.

When the larger, second batch of wristbands arrived, another Facebook post announced that they'd be available Monday morning at both the company's Villa Rica and Douglas chapels.

When doors opened that morning, people were lined up outside both locations.

By the end of the day, the funeral home had given away about 2,000 wristbands.

"It’s a humbling feeling to take a leap of faith and have the community back us with their support 100 percent," said Dana Wynn Jones. "It’s an overwhelming feeling and blessing to connect with our community in such a positive way."

Members of the homes' ownership said they work with law enforcement officers almost daily, often when the officers escort funeral processions from the homes to burial sites.

"Our heart’s desire is that each and every one in law enforcement and their families see this amazing outpouring of support and understand how much they are appreciated by not only our funeral home family, but also the community,” said Ken Duncan, one of those owners.

Jones-Wynn Funeral Homes plans to continue offering the wristbands when they are available.

Due to the high demand, they will continue announcing when shipments arrive on Facebook and other social media accounts.
