Korean War Vet Edwin ‘Ed’ Robert Jones, Sr., 82, Dies

The funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Dr. Darryl T. Jones and Brother Jerome Whaley officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.

Edwin ‘Ed’ Robert Jones, Sr., 82 of Douglasville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3. He was born Nov.8, 1930 in Cuthbert, GA.  Mr. Jones was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Hudges Technical College in Macon, GA, and he retired from AT&T as a Communications Fields Supervisor. He loved spending time with his family and was truly a ‘people person’ who loved meeting new friends. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and being outdoors.  He was an active member of the Beulah Ruritan Club when his sons were involved in sports and was Past-President of the Widowed Persons Organization (WPO). He was a heart transplant recipient in 1990, was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Ranburne, AL, and was very active in the Young at Heart Ministries in Ranburne, AL.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Austin Jones; his parents, Laurice V. and Mary Sammons Jones; and four brothers, Logan Jones, Jack Jones, Don Jones and Grady Jones.

He is survived by sons, Edwin R. ‘Eddie’ Jones, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Macon, GA, Steve Jones of Douglasville, GA, Jay Jones of Austell, GA, Darryl Jones and wife, Lori of Ranburne, AL, and Brian Jones and wife, Esther of Dallas, GA; ten grandchildren, Ben Jones and his wife, Lorra, Dan Jones and wife, Melissa, Stephanie Jones, Haley Jones, Christopher Jackson, Laura Glowacki and husband Matt, Jordane Podaras and husband, Brandon, Madison Jones, Jordan Jones and Jalin Jones ; nine great-grandchildren, Olsen Jones, Benjamin Jones, Hope Jones, Hudson Jones, Maddux Jones, Cade House, Grace Glowacki, Bryce Glowacki, and Haley Jackson; special friend, Jane Clarkson of Douglasville, GA; sister, Jenelle DeLaurier of Macon, GA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. in the Rosehaven Chapel with Pastor Dr. Darryl T. Jones and Brother Jerome Whaley officiating.  Interment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
