Lidl Grocery Store Coming To Douglasville
The German discount grocery chain is making a push into the United States.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Lidl, a German grocery-store chain making a big push into the U.S. market, plans to open in Douglasville.
In February, the Douglasville Planning and Development Committee approved a development plan for Lidl (pronounced "LEE-dul") at 5922 Fairburn Rd.
At the same meeting, committee members approved renovation plans at the neighboring Chick-fil-A restaurant at 5888 Fairburn Rd.

Lidl has been a presence in the European grocery market for more than 40 years, with roughly 10,000 stores in 27 countries. Now, they're making a major push into the United States, where they hope to compete with fellow German grocery, Aldi.
According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, has as many as 12 stores in the works in Georgia. Other proposed locations include Augusta, Calhoun, Cumming, Decatur, Mableton, Newnan, Pooler, Rome, Warner Robins and Woodstock.

Two locations in Sandy Springs were proposed, but withdrawn due to community opposition to a big-box store in the neighborhood.
Lidl has 47 stores proposed, 59 planned and 21 under construction across the U.S., with another 100 sites in the works over the next 12 months, the Business Chronicle reported.
