Marie Stanley, 96, Dies

Marie Stanley, 96 of Douglasville, formerly of Atlanta, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12. She was born Jan. 5, 1917 in Acworth.

Mrs. Stanley was a member of New Genesis Baptist Church. She served with her husband for many years as a pastor’s wife in the Church of God of Prophecy in Atlanta, Cartersville, and Acworth, GA. She was a retired textile worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Horace Stanley; daughter, Alline Driskell; a twin sister; 3 brothers; and 6 sisters.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Wanda Latham and husband Rev. Lloyd Latham; great-granddaughters, Jennifer Smallwood and husband Rodney, Stephanie Kelley and husband Wendell; great-great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, Myranda, Hannah, Emaley, and Sarah; granddaughter, Shannon Chambers and husband Chad; great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Madysun; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at New Genesis Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 14, at noon at New Genesis Baptist Church with Rev. Lloyd Latham, Rev. Ikey Watson, and Rev. Doug Berry officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
