Scam Alert: Douglas Sheriff Warns of Fake Phone Calls

The Douglas Sheriff's Office never demands payment over the telephone, Sheriff Phil Miller said.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about scam phone calls in which the caller pretends to be a law enforcement officer.

In a post on social media Thursday, Sheriff Phil Miller said his office will never demand payment over the phone for things like missed jury duty or to clear up an outstanding warrant.

Scam artists often use tactics just like those, impersonating law enforcement and demanding their victim pay for some supposed offense, often with a prepaid gift card or via a service like PayPal.
