Special Exhibit Celebrates Douglas County's Sesquicentennial

DOUGLASVILLE, GA—The Douglas County Museum History and Art has opened a special exhibit titled “Our Past” celebrating Douglas County, Georgia’s 150th birthday this year. The exhibit showcases historic Douglas County photographs and art from various decades since the county’s founding in 1870. Images show landmark buildings, some of which are still standing.

Museum Director Susanne Hudson said that most of the pictures are from private collections and that additional photographs will be added during the run of the exhibit since images in the museum’s holdings are all gifts. “It is common for museum visitors to share photographs of significant historic value,” said Susanne Hudson, chair of the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission.

The Douglas County Historical Society is the sponsor of the exhibit which is opened from Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The exhibit is in the Old Douglas County Courthouse at 12431 Veterans Memorial Highway, Douglasville, Georgia.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibit, the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission held a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception that was open to the public. Douglas County Commission Chairman, Dr. Romona Jackson Jones and County Administrator Mark Teal were among the invited guests.
