Sweetwater Creek Visitor Rescued After Heart Attack
DNR rangers at the park used a helicopter to transport the victim to an ambulance on Saturday.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A patient who suffered a heart attack while hiking at Sweetwater Creek State Park this weekend was rescued by helicopter.
At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the visitor to the park experienced a medical emergency and went into cardiac arrest, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources law enforcement division.
Rangers Sgt. Eric Brown, Cpl. Chad Cox and park manager David Jordan, along with other staff, responded on foot to the scene, which authorities say was on a trail in a remote area of the park.

Due to rugged terrain, and in order to provide advanced medical attention quicker, the rangers decided to have the patient extricated with a DNR helicopter.
A member of the DNR Law Enforcement Aviation Unit responded "and was able to safely and quickly air lift the patient to an ambulance standing by for medical transport," the department said in a post on Facebook.
