Traffic Stop Turns Into Gift Of Safety For Kids
Douglas County deputies found three babies who weren't secured properly in their mother's car.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — What could have been a routine traffic stop recently in Douglas County turned into something more.
Last Friday, a Douglas County Sheriff's Office traffic unit stopped a vehicle for speeding.
After making contact with the driver, Deputy Atkins noticed there were three babies in her back seat — a two year old, a one year old and an eight-month old. None of them were buckled or restrained in the car properly.

The eight month old and one year old were in child safety seats that didn't have any retention straps, while the two year old was sitting between them and not secured properly, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
The mother tried to call "numerous people," according to the post, but couldn't find anyone who was able, or willing, to help her out of the situation.

At that point, Atkins told her to wait with two other deputies — Deputy Roberson and Deputy Stoyles — while he went to a local Walmart and bought three new child car seats for the children.
While he was on his way back, Roberson and Stoyles told him they would each pay for one of the seats.
The deputies installed the seats properly and taught the woman how to secure her children in them.
They released the mom with a warning.
"Thank you Deputy Atkins, Deputy Roberson and Deputy Stoyles for going above and beyond to help this family," sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Glenn Daniel wrote in the post.
