1. All Hands on Deck: UNG Biannual Conservation Event (ungvanguard.org) — Students and faculty at UNG's Gainesville campus are invited to join a major cleanup of the Tumbling Creek Woods Trail on Oct. 9, helping protect the 77-acre forest and wetland that runs through campus. Volunteers will meet at the trail entrance, where staff will provide all supplies and guidance as part of the Students for Environmental Awareness' ongoing conservation efforts.
   

2. UNG Student Uses Art to Explore Life on the Internet (ungvanguard.org) — An art exhibition at UNG's Gainesville campus showcases how senior fine arts major Carson Holocomb's life online has shaped his creative work, from clothing pieces to vivid paintings. While the Sept. 2 reception has passed, the show's themes about kids' internet access and digital culture remain highly relevant for Gainesville families and students.
   

3. Zach Braff Stars In New Crime Drama Based On True Maryland Story (thebaynet.com) — A new crime drama starring Zach Braff, based on a true addiction and policing story from Hagerstown, Maryland, was actually filmed in Gainesville. While the movie's plot unfolds up north, its April 2025 production brought cast and crew to local streets, ahead of a planned Oct. 16 release in select theaters and on digital platforms.
   

4. Moped rider, scooter rider among four killed overnight (greenvilleonline.com) — A 23-year-old man from Gainesville was among four people killed in separate overnight crashes during stormy weather in South Carolina's Upstate region. Authorities say he died when a pickup truck left Old Anderson Road and hit an embankment, while other victims included a moped rider, an electric scooter rider, and a pedestrian in unrelated incidents.
