BREAKING: Hall County Sheriff's Office fires major, patrol captain resigns following internal investigations (nowgeorgia.com) — Hall County residents are seeing major leadership changes at the Sheriff's Office in Gainesville, where a bureau major was fired and a patrol captain resigned after internal investigations into double-dipping, policy violations and alleged abuse of authority. Sheriff Gerald Couch has reassigned and promoted new commanders over patrol and the jail, while open-records requests continue to press for more details on the investigations and other personnel moves.

Caleb Lee Hutchinson Releases New Single "Thumbs Up" Ahead of October Album (musicindustryweekly.com) — Country artist Caleb Lee Hutchinson is bringing his upcoming tour to Gainesville where he'll open for Craig Morgan as part of a run supporting his new album Long Line of Losers. The 27-year-old former American Idol finalist just released the reflective single "Thumbs Up," with more new songs on the way before his October 30 album launch.

How gas prices have changed in Georgia in the last week (macon.com) — Drivers in Gainesville are paying about $3.83 per gallon for regular gas, putting the city near the top of Georgia's price list. Statewide prices have dipped slightly over the past week but remain much higher than a year ago, with diesel costs especially elevated compared to 2025.

Two Dead And Cleveland Teen Injured In Wrong Way Driver Accident In Franklin County (wrwh.com) — A wrong-way crash on Georgia Highway 17 in Franklin County left a Demorest teen and the other driver dead, while an 18-year-old passenger was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with serious injuries. State troopers say a Ford Escape traveling south in the northbound lanes struck the teen's Mazda head-on late Friday night.

5. Paula Haynes Hudgins (habershamnews.com) — Family and friends in Gainesville are invited to honor the life of Paula Haynes Hudgins, 87, who passed away in Gainesville on October 7. Visitation is Monday evening and her funeral service will be Tuesday morning at Memorial Park Funeral Home, followed by burial in Lula, with many local relatives and caregivers remembering her warmly.
