• Ms. Cathy Ann Newsome Linebarger, 69 (jdledger.com) — Hazlehurst residents are remembering Ms. Cathy Ann Newsome Linebarger, 69, a devoted caregiver and cancer survivor who passed away Aug. 29. Born in Savannah and living in Hazlehurst, she was celebrated in a Sept. 2 memorial service at Swain Funeral Home Hazlehurst Chapel, leaving behind children, step-children, siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
   

• Lady Jackets lose big, win big (jdledger.com) — Jeff Davis High's Lady Jackets softball team split last week's games, including a dominant 9–0 home win over Fitzgerald in Hazlehurst that marked their first Region 1AA victory. After being no-hit in Adel, the team's bats exploded at home with multiple homers and a strong pitching performance from Anna Grace Alligood, giving local fans plenty to cheer about.
