The 8-year-old Kennesaw boy who signed a one-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks and got his very own personalized jersey has died of leukemia, according to WSB-TV.

Lake Bozman, who was three weeks shy of his 9th birthday, died suddenly on Friday morning, reported The Bert Show host Jeff Dauler. “He signed his Atlanta Hawks contract, got them into the playoffs, then strapped on his wings,” Dauler said.

Bozman had been battling acute myeloid leukemia, a rare blood cancer. In December of last year, Bozman was selected by The Bert Show to participate in Bert’s Big Adventure, an all-expense paid trip to Disney World in Florida. Unfortunately, Bozman was too ill to participate in the trip. Not wanting to leave Bozman empty-handed, Bert Show host Bert Weiss arranged for the little warrior to have a special day with the Hawks.
