Health Inspection: Gwinnett Mexican Restaurant Solves At Least One Problem

La Cazuela, in Lawrenceville, failed a health inspection earlier in the week, but at least one issue has been resolved.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A downtown Lawrenceville Mexican restaurant that failed its health inspection earlier this week has solved at least one of the problems for which it was penalized.

Health inspectors returned to La Cazuela, at 179 W. Crogan St., on Thursday and confirmed that the restaurant has proper documentation that some of the fish it serves is safe.

To be specific, inspectors were looking for a form showing that tilapia the restaurant uses to make ceviche was confirmed to be parasite-free.

While a health inspection form filled out for the Thursday visit has a 100-A printed on it, the form notes that the follow-up was unofficial and did not result in a new score for the restaurant as a whole.

On Tuesday, La Cazuela received a failing grade of 57-U on its inspection.

In addition to the missing fish forms, inspectors dinged the restaurant for such problems as mold on beer taps and an ice machine, food being stored at too-high temperatures and utensils being stored as clean that still had food debris on them.

The score of 57 was a sharp drop from La Cazuela's previous inspections. The restaurant received a 94-A on its most recent inspection in February and a 91-A on an inspection in September.

Under state policy, the restaurant will get a full inspection again some time in the next 10 days. A failure to fix the problems that were cited this week could result in the restaurant being shut down, at least temporarily, until they are addressed.
