Murder Suspect Claims Gwinnett Mom, Son Are Still Alive

Brandon Williams is accused of choking to death Natalie Nation and her 2-year-old son, Cole.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A Gwinnett County man accused of choking to death a mother and her 2-year-old son maintained in court that the two are actually still alive.

Brandon Williams, 32, of Buford, appeared in court Tuesday, saying he was being detained illegally and that his alleged victims were fine, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

"I’m just trying to figure out how you murder somebody when they are at the same residence right now running around," Williams told the judge, according to the paper.

Williams was arrested Sunday, charged in the deaths of Natalie Nation, 30, and her 2-year-old son, Cole.

The two were killed in an attack that happened shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday at a home on Tybee Drive in Buford.

According to police, Nation was renting a room at the home where Williams lived. There was no familial or other type of relationship between Williams and the victims, police said.

Police say the attack happened while the homeowner, Williams' father, was outside working on a car in the driveway.

Police received a 911 call from the homeowner, saying that his son had choked a mother and child that lived at the house, then walked up the street to a gas station.

Williams was confronted by police at the gas station and arrested without incident. Both victims were transported to the hospital, where the baby died on Sunday and Natalie Nation died Monday morning.

Williams is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
