Pair Stole Jeep, Set It On Fire, Police Say

Authorities say a man left the vehicle running while he went inside a convenience store and, when he returned, it was gone.

SUWANEE, GA — Gwinnett County authorities are seeking two suspects they say stole a vehicle from a convenience store and then set it on fire.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 6.

At 6:42 a.m., Norcross Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at the Quick Trip located at 2185 Beaver Ruin Rd.

The owner had left the vehicle, a 2005, gold Jeep Grand Cherokee, running in a parking space while he went inside the store. When he returned, the vehicle was gone.

Gwinnett County Police say video surveillance shows the two suspects loitering outside the store, then driving off in the stolen Jeep.

At 8:43 a.m., Gwinnett County Police responded to a suspicious persons call at Walnut Grove Way and Taylor Road in Suwanee. A witness reported seeing the suspects standing next to the Jeep with a flaming rag stuck in the gas tank.

Officers found the vehicle on fire in the roadway and quickly doused the flames with a portable fire extinguisher. The fire was out by the time firefighters arrived. Fire investigators were requested due to the suspicious nature of the blaze.
