Police: 6-Year-Old Was Shot By a Friend

After a lengthy investigation, Gwinnett County Police have ruled Ni-Shawn Moore's shooting an accident.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A 6-year-old boy who was shot outside a neighborhood party at his home was shot accidentally by a friend, police say.

That's the finding after a lengthy investigation into the March 12 shooting of Ni-Shawn Moore as he was out riding bikes in front of his home on Caboose Court.

Gwinnett County Police spokeswoman Cpl. Michel Pihera said it's not yet clear whether there will be any charges in the case because of the ages of the children involved.

Police were called to the party at 6:18 p.m. When they arrived, they found the boy with a small wound on his chest.

According to police, Ni-Shawn was riding his bicycle in front of the home where the party was taking place when someone shot him.

After the shooting, it was initially thought that Ni-Shawn had been shot with a BB or pellet gun because of the size of his wound, police said.

He was able to walk and speak normally and was taken to an area hospital by his mother. Once there, doctors determined his injuries were more serious than originally thought and that he had been hit by a small-caliber bullet, not a BB or pellet.

He was taken to Children’s at Egleston Pediatric Hospital in Atlanta, where he was originally listed in serious condition. He has since recovered and been released from the hospital.
