Two New Doctors Join Georgia Retina's Lawrenceville office
Dr. Harpreet "Paul" S. Walia, who is new to Georgia Retina, and Dr. Hyung Cho will work out of the practice's Lawrenceville office
Georgia Retina — one of the largest retina-only medical practices in the southeastern United States — continues to grow and expand its services with the addition to its Gwinnett office of Dr. Harpreet “Paul” S. Walia, a new physician, and Dr. Hyung Cho, who also works out of the practice’s Conyers and Stockbridge offices. Dr. Walia joined the practice on Aug. 31.
Dr. Walia’s clinical interests include macular surgery, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, endophthalmitis and complications of anterior segment surgery, hereditary vitreoretinal diseases, ocular trauma and posterior segment uveitis/inflammation.
Dr. Cho has written several book chapters on ophthalmology and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He also has served as a sub-investigator in more than 20 clinical trials. In his spare time, he enjoys playing sports, breakdancing, snowboarding and spending time with his family, especially his baby niece.

Dr. Walia has published extensive research in prominent peer-reviewed medical journals and presented his work at national and international meetings. He has authored book chapters and been involved in numerous clinical research trials. Dr. Walia enjoys spending time with his family, international travel, and the culinary arts. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys being outdoors.
Dr. Harpreet “Paul” S. Walia is a graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. He attended graduate school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and performed his ophthalmology residency at Emory University School of Medicine. He performed a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Barnes Retina Institute/Retina Consultants of St. Louis. He is an active member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Hyung Cho graduated with honors from Dartmouth College. He completed his medical school and ophthalmology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York. He served as chief resident in the final year of his residency. He completed a two-year medical and surgical retina fellowship at Tufts New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, one of the leading retina research and clinical centers in the United States. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
