After four people died and a dozen were sickened in a two-day period this week, six more overdose cases are being investigated by the Georgia Department of Public Health, the agency said Wednesday. State officials continue to investigate a wave of presumed opioid overdoses linked to the fatalities and mass hospitalizations in Albany, Centerville, Macon, Perry and Warner Robins, and authorities warn the drugs may also be sold on the street in other parts of the state.

Sixty-one of Georgia's brightest high school graduates have been named National Merit Scholars, the program announced Wednesday. The National Merit Scholarship program provides students with up to $2,000 annually for four years toward an undergraduate degree at an institution of higher learning.
