Macon-Bibb Approves Next Phase of “Paving the Way” Road Improvements
Next wave of infrastructure work set to accelerate smoother, safer roads throughout Macon‑Bibb
The Macon-Bibb County Commission approved Professional Paving Services to repave several of the county’s worst roads, including Clinton Road, Upper River Road, Riggins Mill Road, and Millerfield Road, totaling 5.49 miles. The $1,231,636.36 contract is funded by the 2025 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
An additional 16 miles of roads will be repaved using a combination of state Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds and 2018 SPLOST dollars. The list of roads will be put out for bid in the coming weeks.
Roads were selected through a scan of the more than 1,100 miles of county-owned roads. Each segment was rated on a scale of 1 to 100, with priority given to roads rated 30 and below, arterial and collector roads below 40, connecting roads rated 30 to 55, and heavily trafficked industrial roads.

“The quality of our roads is one of the most talked about daily issues people in Macon-Bibb face” said Mayor Lester Miller adding “we are making a historic investment in improving roads across the county”
Since the program began in August, 648 segments totaling 80 miles have been repaved, with 209 miles planned for the first year of “Paving the Way.”
