• UPDATE: 15-year-old killed in Macon shooting (41nbc.com) — A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday afternoon on Grosso Avenue in Macon, and Bibb County deputies are still investigating what happened. The teen, identified as LaKendrick Jamari Banks, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Bibb County Sheriff's Office or Macon Regional Crimestoppers.
   

• Amid a sea of Georgia Tech colors, some Mercer orange shines through in Atlanta (macon.com) — Mercer fans from Macon turned Bobby Dodd Stadium into a noticeable patch of orange, with students, alumni, and the marching band loudly backing the Bears against Georgia Tech. Supporters say the growing football culture reflects how Mercer has embraced all of Macon, and many Maconites made the short trip up I-75 despite the 44-11 loss.
   

• 'Protecting Houses of Worship' Safety and Grant Training in Macon Next Month (justice.gov) — Faith leaders in Macon and nearby communities can attend a free "Protecting Houses of Worship" safety and grant training on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, at Bibb Mount Zion Baptist Church. Federal, state, and local law enforcement will share security best practices, emergency planning tips, and information on grants to improve safety. Registration is required but there's no deadline, and seating is limited.
