Victim's Name in Cobb County Carjackings Released

A 71-year-old Marietta woman was killed in a multi-county carjacking crime spree that happened earlier this week.

MARIETTA, GA -- Police have released the name of the woman who was killed earlier this week in a series of violent carjackings that began in Cobb County and ended in Atlanta's Virginia Highland community.

Marietta resident Luci James Yarborough Turner, 71, was struck by a car driven by Kristie Renee Nesby on Wednesday morning, according to police.

Nesby, 43, is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Here's what police have figured out so far: Nesby allegedly was driving a green 2006 Ford 500 southbound on Cobb Parkway. Police she she then intentionally left her lane of travel and hit Turner, who was walking on the sidewalk. Nesby then is suspected of two committing two separate carjackings. She was armed with a handgun in both incidents.

The Atlanta Police Department took Nesby into custody a short time later near Ponce de Leon Avenue, in front of the Majestic Diner.

Nesby is facing charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, vehicular homicide, reckless driving, hit and run, and failure to maintain lane. Police say additional charges are expected to be filed.

The crime spree began around 6:15 am.
