Walmart Shooting Started As Road Rage: Police

A woman fired shots at a 62-year-old man after that man shot her male friend, Cobb County Police say.

POWDER SPRINGS, GA — A shootout at a Cobb County Walmart on Monday started as an incident of road rage, according to police.

Before it was all over, a 62-year-old man had shot a 23-year-old, after which that man's female friend pulled her own handgun and returned fire.

The shooting happened Monday outside the store, in the 6500 block of Barrett Parkway in Powder Springs. In a news release, Cobb County Police said the dispute "began as a verbal road rage altercation in the parking lot."

The 23-year-old man and 62-year-old man argued before entering the store. After the 62-year-old came back out a few minutes later, he was approached again by the younger man and the argument became physical, according to police.

"Subsequently, shots were fired by the older male and the younger male was struck," said police Sgt. Wayne Delk.

Then, a 21-year-old woman who was with the younger man returned fire at the older man, who is not believed to have been injured and left the scene on his own. The woman then took the younger man to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

At least six shell casings reportedly were found at the scene. Police say they have identified everyone involved in the shooting, but are not releasing their names because the investigation is ongoing.
