From an empty storefront in town, neighbors are organizing relief for those who lost everything, while state and federal crews, including the National Guard, battle fast‑moving flames fueled by drought and leftover Hurricane Helene debris.

LIST: Shelters open for displaced residents in Brantley County, where to donate (actionnewsjax.com) — Several shelters in Nahunta and nearby Hortense are open right now for Brantley County residents displaced by the wildfires, including Southside Baptist, Nahunta United Methodist, and the county library. Local sites in Nahunta are also collecting clothing, food, pet supplies, and hygiene items, while officials recommend monetary donations through Georgia VOAD for Brantley County support.

Debris from Hurricane Helene is helping fuel Georgia's wildfires (texarkanagazette.com) — From Nahunta, officials are warning that drought and leftover Hurricane Helene debris are helping fuel wildfires that have already destroyed close to 90 homes near Georgia’s coast and forced more evacuations. Brantley County residents, including some choosing to stay and run sprinklers, are watching an unpredictable fire while smoke and air‑quality problems spread across multiple Southern states.
