• Okefenokee Swamp Park Awarded $500,000 Grant to Restore Historic Skull Lake Boardwalk (theislanderonline.com) — Waycross is set to benefit from a $500,000 Expedia Trails Fund grant to restore Okefenokee Swamp Park’s long-closed Skull Lake boardwalk, a key part of the park’s Waycross campus. Design and permitting are underway now, with construction expected to start in fall 2026 and finish by spring 2027, improving accessibility, education, and tourism tied to the Okefenokee.
