What To Do To Meet New People
Tips on meeting new people when you're the town newbie.

One of the hardest things about moving anywhere new is meeting new people. It can be a tough thing to make friends when you change locations - especially if you have a job that you can do from home or requires you to stay on the road a lot. If you’re tired of the same old meet and greet, or just aren’t into the club scene, there are quite a few ways you can make new friends. Here are a few ways to get social when you’re the new kid on the block.
Join a group. There are tons of local groups for nearly every hobby or passion you have. There are sports groups, artist groups, even writing groups (such as Roswell-Alpharetta Writers Group). The clubs often have minimal membership fees and plan trips and conferences surrounding those interests. If you are looking to meet new people in the area, this is one of the best ways because you will definitely have something in common with others in the group. Plus, it will often give you the social interaction and connections you’ve been looking for.
Tag along. So many people are terrified of being the “odd man out” somewhere, but if you’re looking to make friends, why not utilize the ones you already have? If your friend is going somewhere and invites you along, go with them! It could be to hear a local band play, sing karaoke, go to church or even to learn fly fishing. Never turn down an offer where you may be introduced to new friends.

Volunteer. Volunteering in its own right can be a rewarding experience, but the people you’ll meet during a volunteer event is another major upside. You won’t find volunteers sitting around complaining they aren’t getting paid enough to deal with the boss. You’ll find hard-working, caring, wonderful people from all walks of life united in a common goal. It’s uplifting just thinking about it!
So when you’re getting lonely thinking about all the people you don’t know in your new city, start closing the gap between strangers and friends. A simple smile is a great ice-breaker—no clever follow-up jokes needed.
