π± Cobb County Elections HQ Moves + Smyrna Mayor's Address Next Week
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Smyrna-Vinings.
Good morning, everybody! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Smyrna-Vinings Daily. Come along for everything you need to know about what's going on these days in town.
First, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:
- Smyrna Mayor Derek Norton is set to deliver his second State of the City address next week, on Jul. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. He will deliver the address from the Community Center at 200 Village Green Circle SE in Smyrna. The mayor will be speaking about citywide developments and recapping developments in 2021. He will also be sharing plans for the future of Smyrna. (The Atlanta Journal Consitution)
- The Cobb County Elections and Registration headquarters will be moving to a new location, effective Aug. 1. The current location is on Whitlock Avenue in Marietta and the new location will be near Cobb Parkway. The headquarters be located near the well-known Big Chicken landmark. While HQ is moving, the office will be closed from Wednesday, Jul. 27 through Friday, Jul. 29. (Cobb County Courier)
- The City of Smyrna announced road closures today, Jul. 22, as contractors make the new water main connection along Church Street adjacent to Atlanta Road. Work begins at 9:00 a.m. Crews are expected to complete work and reopen the road no later than 4:00 p.m. This will be the final stage of the water line replacement project on Church Street. - Looking for a place to cool off in this heat? Try the library! The Sewell Mill Library has a free, family-friendly movie afternoon in the community room every week from 2 to 4 p.m. The movie title changes each week, and those interested can find the movie schedule on the library's website. - This is the last call for registration for the State of the City address with Mayor Derek Norton. There's no charge to attend and dinner will be served. The address is on Wednesday, Jul. 27, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Smyrna Community Center. (City of Smyrna, GA Government via Facebook)
- Calling all runners! The Vinings 5K and Doggie Dash is on! On Aug. 13, 2022, an anticipated 2,000 runners will gather to compete in the 2022 Vinings Downhill 5K race. The Vinings Down Hill 5K course begins at the top of Mt. Wilkinson, winds around the Cumberland Mall area, and ends at the Lovett School (280-foot net drop). There is also a Kids 1K Fun Run and a fun Doggie Dash & Costume Contest! Register here for the event. (Vinings Downhill 5k)
