Emory Adventist Hospital ER Closes
The Smyrna hospital announced in July that it would cease operation by the end of October.

The emergency room at Smyrnaβs Emory-Adventist Hospital has closed for the last time.
According to a City of Smyrna Facebook post, the ER closed at 7 a.m. Wednesday, two days before the Oct. 31 date Emory Adventist leadership gave as the closing date for the entire hospital earlier this year.
Adventist Health System and Emory Healthcare announced on July 30 that Emory-Adventist would be closing due to financial shortfalls and an inability to remain economically viable in the current health care environment,

The decision to close the hospital was made on July 28, following months of searching for other alternatives, including partnering with other health systems to keep the hospital afloat. The Emory-Adventist Health Systemβs board came to the conclusion that, βthe hospital is no longer sustainable in todayβs dramatically changed health care environment.β
The nearest emergency room to Smyrna is now located at WellStar Cobb Hospital on Austell Road.
