Advisory Issued as Fallen Soldier Returns Home Wednesday

First Lt. Jonathan Walsh of Kennesaw was killed by an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan.

The body of a Kennesaw soldier killed in Afghanistan by a blast from an improvised explosive device will be escorted by law enforcement today following the arrival of his remains at in Marietta.

First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, a 28-year-old paratrooper, .

The motorcade is expected to depart Dobbins between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and will travel north along Atlanta Road, turn right onto South Cobb Drive, enter onto Cobb Parkway, turn right onto Blue Springs Road in Acworth, right onto Old Highway 41, left onto McCollum Parkway in Kennesaw, left on Frey Road, right onto Shiloh Road, left onto Sandy Plains Road, right onto Highway 92, and then left on Mansell Road to arrive at the , located at 950 Mansell Road in Roswell.

Walsh was an infantry platoon leader with the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He is survived by his wife and son, Debbra and Austin Walsh, who live in Raeford, NC, and his parents, Paul and Carolyn Walsh of Kennesaw.

He graduated from Coles College of Business in 2008. In addition to the motorcade passing by the university, a memorial service is planned at Kennesaw State on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

American flags displayed on Main Street in downtown Kennesaw are in honor of Walsh. The motorcade is expected to pass through the area between 11 and 11:30 a.m.
