Block or Traditional?

Observation from Feb 8th CCSD Board meeting

Block or Traditional?

What is best for your child in Cobb Schools?  Recently the Cobb School Board received a presentation on this issue that included discussions from three principals.  The principals spoke from their individual experiences in each system and shared the pluses and minuses from the involvement of teachers and value to students. The outcome was……it depends.

Some early reports suggested a significant cost of operations difference between the two.  The financial information in the presentation indicated, not much difference exists.  The most significant difference from an academic position, in my opinion, was the number of “opportunities” a student has to satisfy completion of the 23 credits required by Georgia DOE to graduate.

The Block structure gives a student more chances to take the required courses, along with electives and make up classes.  Parents should meet with their high school principal and your son or daughter to understand how they are progressing in whatever system they are on.
