The recent denial of a proposed rezoning request in the Six Flags area is a signal that the Board of Commissioners and the Cobb Zoning Division should continue to exercise care in consideration of approval of any zoning changes until the South Cobb community has had an opportunity to digest all of the suggested plans that will come out of the Living Cities Initiative.
Privately and in public forums, members of the BOC and others in the Community Development Department have lamented along with residents that the saturation of rental housing in the Six Flags area along with inadequate transportation, greenspace, and a balanced retail mix are issues that require a measured approach to change.
The issues, values, and needs of homeowners in subdivisions in and around the Six Flags area and those persons who may become residents in the future, need to be paramount rather than loosely disguised appeals for the improvements of facilities that in the long run will be impediments to a livable and thriving community.
