On Feb.23, the South Cobb Rotary hosted the winners of the Essay Contest. The first place winners for each grade received a prize of $100 cash, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. There was a three-way tie for the eighth graders, two of whom are twin sisters, so each received $100. The winners were:

The Austell Rotary Club, as it was first called, began the Esaay Contest in 1976. The contest was a forerunner of the Cobb County Writing Fair. This year's essay title, "Service Above Self" was the same title we used in 1977-78.
