Members of “Team Shelia” joined me yesterday at Juneteenth, which was hosted at the Marietta Square by the Cobb County Chapter of the NAACP.
“Team Shelia” is comprised of high school and college students from Cobb County who are volunteering with my campaign for Cobb County Commissioner for District 4.
We joined other members of the community – black, white, brown, young and old, and everyone in between - who were gathered in the park for a peaceful rally to highlight Juneteenth.

Members of the community marched from the NAACP headquarters to the Marietta Square Park. Once they arrived, the rally began. Attendees heard messages of unity from NAACP President Jeriene Grimes and others. We were presented with music, dance, the spoken word, and a marching drum core. We also heard from elected officials who pledged support for Juneteenth and promised to bring our community together.
Prior to the start of the event, members of “Team Shelia”, were the recipients of a personal message of hope and inspiration from Past NAACP President, Deane Bonner. Ms. Booner saw me and the students and came over to welcomed everyone. She told our students that they are the future of our community and that much is expected from them, among other things. We thanked Ms. Bonner for her kind words of wisdom that were offered to these young and impressionable students.

It was a wonderful occasion and I was glad "Team Shelia” and I were able to participate in this important event in our community.
As we stood there listening to speakers, I heard one of them say “Be the change you want to see in our Community”.
…Well said!
