Democratic Party Leaders Swift to Condemn Vernon Jones,
But Continuously Remain Silent on Colleague Representative Erica Thomas.

Before I start, let me state for the record, I am not advocating for Representative Vernon Jones as this is not the purpose of this article. What I am is a advocate of honesty, integrity and people over party. The Democratic Party has failed to put the people of our community over party by lack of condemning and denouncing State Representative Erica Thomas (the Minority Caucus Vice Chair) the same as they have with State Representative Vernon Jones.

The Democratic Party moved with lightning speed to condemn Representative Vernon Jones for his endorsement of Republican President Donald J. Trump, but didn’t utter a single word of condemnation when his colleague State Representative Erica Thomas, made a mockery of our community as well as the Democratic Party on a local, state, national and international level.

Please recall last summer when Representative Erica Thomas falsely accused a member of our community - a gentleman of Hispanic descent who described himself as a lifelong Democrat who voted for her in her last election. Representative Erica Thomas claimed that the gentleman had verbally attacked her and her daughter at the neighborhood Publix.

Representative Erica Thomas after returning home, recorded a tearful Facebook video alleging that the gentleman told her to go back where she came from, a statement she herself retracted in a later interview. Representative Erica Thomas even went a step further by demanding law enforcement arrest the gentleman on assault charges. Representative Thomas’s story was short lived when the gentleman showed up the next day and interrupted her interview with the local news station that was following the story. Seeing Representative Thomas towering over this smaller gentleman, yelling at him, and pointing her finger in his face said it all. That was all the community needed to conclude - she is unworthy to wear the title of District 39 State Representative.

Publix later released the video of the encounter clearly showing that Representative Thomas was the aggressor. The gentleman attempted to walk away several times with Representative Thomas angrily following his every step. I have waited patiently for the fallout, the condemnations, and the censorship she had rightfully earned from her fellow representatives in the House of Representatives and the Cobb County Delegation. I searched the local news looking for media coverage on a press conference hosted by the Democratic Party to express their outrage and demand for her immediate removal from office. All I found were Facebook posts “#Istandwitherica” as both the Democratic Party and the elected leaders in our community gave us the sound of silence. ONCE AGAIN, OUR COMMUNITY LEADERS HAVE FAILED US!

The Democratic Party has mysteriously found their voices and a target for their outrage and demands, in dealing with Representative Vernon Jones, while – Representative Erica Thomas has quietly placed herself back on the ballot for re-election. The Democratic Party and the elected leaders in our community are willing to saddle us with this representation for another two years while they work themselves into a stroke over Representative Vernon Jones. WOW!

Well, I am not waiting for anyone to tell me what needs to occur in our community, and I urge you to do the same. Many in the community have concluded that Representative Erica Thomas needs to go because she is not worthy of our vote. This is what she should be judged on, but instead, they want us to support her because she’s a Democrat with an (I) next to her name. It’s time for Representative Erica Thomas’s reign to come to an end as it should have ended a long time ago. We must work together on June 9^th by sending a message that her lack of service to our community is no longer needed. We have a choice to elect representation that will make our community proud as well as represent us in a professional manner at the Capitol by building the relationships and partnerships to bring real results to our community. We need representation that will represent the best of South Cobb by erasing the cloud defining us as the worst of Cobb County.
